Abstract:

Introduction: Radiolucent lesions in pediatric patients can present as diagnostic challenges. These lesions can represent various conditions, ranging from benign developmental anomalies to more serious pathologies. Early identification and periodic monitoring are essential to ensure appropriate management.

Case Report: This presentation discusses an 8-year-old male patient who presented to our clinic for a routine visit in September 2024. Patient records showed a panoramic radiograph from May 2023, which revealed a unilocular, well-defined radiolucent lesion on the left mandibular posterior area. The lesion was initially referred to oral surgery for further evaluation, but the patient did not pursue further consultation or dental treatment until the September 2024 visit. A new panoramic radiograph was taken during this visit, which showed that a developing tooth bud, previously positioned distally, had erupted mesially and now occupied the same area as the previously identified radiolucent lesion. No symptoms such as pain, swelling, expansion, or perforation were present. Given the absence of symptoms and the normal development of the tooth bud, it was advised to monitor the patient periodically. This case highlights the importance of periodic radiographic evaluation in monitoring the development of dental structures and resolving initial concerns regarding radiolucent lesions.
