Dr. Laurent Bozec, a full professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto, holds cross-appointments in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology within the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Information. Before joining the University of Toronto in 2018, he served as the Vice-Dean of Research for the Eastman Dental Institute at the University College London in the United Kingdom. His research focuses on the nanometrology of connective tissue disorders, collagen engineering, dental science, and cultural heritage science (parchment). He has supervised over 90 graduate students and collaborated with academics and industry partners on over 75 funded projects globally. The research portfolio driven by Dr. Bozec explores the relationship between collagen's structural and biomechanical properties at the nanoscale in health and diseases. In 2024, the MFP lab engaged its efforts in the nanoscale collagen morphometry in Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. He is also passionate about exploring new imaging tools for the characterization of enamel defects in pediatric patients and is developing new restoration approaches to enhance the dentine/composite interface by focusing on collagen-based technology. Dr Bozec continues to advocate for graduate students’ skill development and promotes fairness, transparency, and equity in funded research. Dr Bozec sits on the Governing Council of the University of Toronto and is a member of the NCHOR executive in Canada. Finally, Dr. Bozec participates in several Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives across the University of Toronto.
