Franklin Zhang, DMD, is a second-year pediatric dental resident in the University of California, San Francisco Pediatric Dentistry 3-Year Program. He is concurrently pursuing a Master of Public Health at San José State University with the goal of integrating public health principles into his future practice. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine at Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM), where he served as Vice President of the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) Chapter, a Fellow with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and a DMD Admissions Ambassador. During dental school, Dr. Zhang conducted research on communication techniques in the pre-doctoral teaching practice and on teledentistry at Boston Children’s Hospital.
He was born and raised in Plano, Texas, and completed his undergraduate education at Rice University with a BA in Cognitive Sciences and Neuroscience, along with a Certificate in Spanish Language and Intercultural Communication. He developed a strong interest in pediatric dentistry while volunteering on a Global Dental and Medical Brigades trip to Honduras, where he used music and storytelling to help young children build healthy oral hygiene habits. Dr. Zhang is especially passionate about improving access to care for underserved pediatric populations and promoting lifelong oral health.
