Dr. Stephen Wilson recently retired as Chief Dental Officer of Blue Cloud Pediatric Surgery Centers and is a consultant in the profession of Pediatric Dentistry specifically in the field of child sedation for dental procedures. He is also currently an Adjunct Professor in the Division of Pediatric Dentistry at Nationwide Children’s Hospital/Ohio State University in the Advanced Pediatric Dentistry Training Program.
He has held the position of Professor and Chair of Pediatric Dentistry at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center; the same at the University of Colorado School of Dentistry and Denver Children’s Hospital; and Professor and Residency Program Director at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and Columbus Children’s Hospital (now Nationwide Children’s Hospital).
Dr. Wilson received his dental degree (D.M.D. – Schol of Dentistry) - and Doctorate in Physiology (Ph.D. – School of Medicine) at the University of Louisville. His residency training in Pediatric Dentistry was completed at the University of Louisville and Kosair-Children’s Hospital. Dr. Wilson has a Master’s degree (M.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University.
Dr. Wilson is a board-certified pediatric dentist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Wilson has served as President and Director of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
He has taught for over 20 years in the AAPD-sponsored Contemporary Sedation Course presented annually including simulations of sedation emergencies. He was awarded “Pediatric Dentistry of the Year” by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry in 2007.
He has published over 120 peer-reviewed papers, written numerous chapters in textbooks; and published his own textbook on sedation of children entitled “Oral Sedation for Dental Procedures in Children”. He has spoken at numerous local, national, and international meetings. Dr. Wilson’s research interests and clinical passion include child behavior, sedation procedures, and electronic monitoring during sedation.
