Dr. Wen received his PhD in molecular microbiology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May 1998. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Center for Oral Biology, Rochester, New York from 1998 to 2001 and as an Assistant Professor - Research in the Department of Oral Biology at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida from 2001 to 2008, before joining the faculty at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans as an Assistant Professor on May 26, 2008. Dr. Wen is currently serving as an endowed Professor (with tenure) in oral biology and microbiology at LSU School of Dentistry. His research primarily focuses on the microecology of oral biofilms and identification of novel strategies against biofilm-associated disease including human dental caries using various biochemical, molecular and bioinformatics techniques along with different in vitro and ex vivo models and a rat caries model. He has served as a PI or Co-I on multiple projects sponsored by NIH/NIDCR and other funding agencies, and have demonstrated a track record of productive and innovative research. He also teaches Oral Microbiology to students in dental surgery and dental hygiene and Research Methods and Statistics in Health Sciences to dental residents.
