I, Dr. Kat Bigham, DMD, am a second year resident in pediatric dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. I am originally from Tennessee and attended dental school at the Dental College of Georgia. Once I arrived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for residency, I was privileged to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Adriana Modesto Gomes Da Silva. Dr. Modesto, DDS, DMD, MS, PhD is the first Assistant Dean of Diversity, Inclusion and Social Justice as well as one of the full time faculty members within the school's Department of Pediatric Dentistry. She helped me to investigate meaningful topics and eventually create a study on oral health perception in the LGBTQIA+ population. I have been fortunate to learn a lot in this process and am excited to share my findings.
