437 - Effects of Isolation Techniques on Stress Levels in Pediatric Patients

Abstract: Purpose
This study evaluates the impact of two dental isolation techniques, cotton rolls and the Isolite system, on stress levels in pediatric patients aged 6–18 during sealant placement. Stress is assessed through salivary cortisol levels, pulse rates, and subjective experiences.







Methods
A randomized split-mouth trial is being conducted with pediatric patients at Howard University College of Dentistry. Each patient received sealants using both isolation methods. Salivary cortisol levels and pulse rates were measured at multiple intervals during treatment. Subjective experiences were collected through post-treatment questions. Salivary samples will be analyzed using ELISA.
