Purpose: The aim of this quantitative assessment was to assess NYU Dental students’ attitudes and perspective on Virtual Pediatric Diagnosis and Treatment Planning Case (VDTP) Exercises.
Methods: Online attitudinal survey questions were administered to D3 and D4 students at the beginning and at the end of their pediatric dental clinical rotation. Data from the surveys was collected from March 2024 to October 2024. The students’ attitudes and perspectives on the efficacy of VDTP exercises were assessed. Students that did not fully complete both pre and post-surveys were excluded from the data set.
Results: 485 of D3s and 528 D4s completed the surveys. 53.6 % of D3 and 49.4 % of D4s completed the surveys at the beginning of their rotations while 46.4 % of D3s and 50.6 % of D4s completed the surveys at the end. The confidence and effectiveness of students’ attitudes and perspectives on VDTP are anticipated to be increased at the end of pediatric dental rotations compared to the beginning.
Conclusions: The confidence and effectiveness of students’ attitudes and perspectives on VDTP are anticipated to be increased at the end of pediatric dental rotations compared to the beginning. The confidence and effectiveness of students’ attitudes and perspectives on VDTP are anticipated to be increased when the students are in academic year 4 compared to when they are in academic year 3.
